Some points of interest and attractions are particularly representative of Otranto and are located in the city center. Others are outside the town center and can be reached on foot, by car, or by the Ape Calessino service.

Campanile normanno

Square in shape, it was built in the 12th century under Norman rule.

Castello Aragonese

An imposing fortress bordered by a deep moat, today a cultural centre

Cattedrale di Santa Maria Annunziata

The Cathedral is a wonderful synthesis of Byzantine, Early Christian, and Romanesque elements. The floor mosaic is of notable value.

Cava di Bauxite

A small lake of an extraordinary emerald green color immersed in a Siena red earth, it is an absolutely not to be missed place.

Centro Storico

A maze of narrow streets lined with trendy bars, shops and restaurants, surrounded by ancient city walls.

Chiesa Bizantina di San Pietro

The small church constitutes a precious testimony to Byzantine rule in Terra d'Otranto.

Faro di Punta Palascìa

The lighthouse represents the easternmost point of the peninsula, the place where the first sunrise in Italy rises.

Ipogeo di Torre Pinta

The Torre Pinta Hypogeum is one of Otranto's hidden wonders, in the wonderful Valley of Memories, in an almost pristine natural setting.

Monumento agli Eroi e Martiri di Otranto

The monument represents Otranto, in the guise of a woman wrapped in a large cloak who looks out to sea.

Museo Diocesano

The Museum houses wonderful works of sculpture, precious silverware, rich textile artefacts, ancient printed volumes and ecclesiastical furnishings.

Santuario di S. Maria dei Martiri

The church, also dedicated to San Francesco da Paola, stands on a hill overlooking the city, the Colle della Minerva.
