How to move
Otranto's city center is ideal for exploring on foot. Most of the main attractions, such as the Cathedral, the Church of San Pietro, and the Castle and its walls, are within walking distance. Strolling through the historic streets will allow you to fully immerse yourself in the city's unique atmosphere.
ON FOOT
Walking is certainly the most pleasant way to explore Otranto. The historic center has limited traffic, and the waterfront invites you to slow down and relax.
GETTING AROUND OUTSIDE THE CITY
Otranto Central Station provides connections primarily to nearby cities, including the main tourist destinations in Salento (Lecce, Gallipoli, and Galatina). Find them at: https://www.trenitalia.com
For long journeys, whether outside the province or the region, it's best to reach Lecce train station.
The Ape Calessino is ideal for short trips and scenic tours, a slow-moving vehicle for relaxed, stress-free tourism.
From mid-June to mid-September, the "Salento in Bus" service is available, connecting Lecce with the marinas and coastal towns via 9 main lines.
These include:
ROUTE 106, which connects Otranto with nearby Maglie and Lecce
ROUTE 101, which connects Otranto and Lecce with intermediate stops in coastal towns such as Torre dell'Orso, San Foca, and Torre dell'Orso

The most practical and convenient way to reach and get around Salento is definitely by car. Salento is a land rich in things to see, but these are not always accessible by public transportation, and especially not compatible with your schedule. To explore Salento and get around freely, renting a car is the best option. You can pick up your vehicle at the main airports or directly in the tourist destinations.
